The Nogba TreeSclerocarrya birrea tree

Even ink comes from the Nogba tree (Sclerocarrya birrea), although more usual uses include its seeds which are rich in protein and eaten like nuts, giving strength to those suffering asthenia. Like the fruits, they are also a great income-generating product. These are just some of the many uses of the Nogba which grows to around twelve metres and thrives in sandy soil.

Nogba wood can be used to make toothbrushes and kitchen utensils like mortars.

Nogba wood burns particularly well as fuel.

Nogba bark is full of tannin and alkaloids, which treat many ailments including diarrhoea, malaria and measles.
