Burkina Faso

Burkina Faso is a landlocked country in West Africa just slightly larger than the UK.

Four-fifths of families live rurally, growing crops and farming animals. These people rely heavily on their natural environment and survive on less than $2 a day. They can suffer disproportionately from extreme weather conditions such as drought or flooding, because they do not have the financial means to buy food if crops fail. Increasing population is also putting extra pressure on limited resources.

TREE AID is working with local project partners to support communities to improve their farming techniques, increase agricultural production and improve their environment through tree planting.

These trees also provide shade, fodder for animals, fruits which can be eaten and products that can be sold.

TREE AID has been working in Burkina Faso since 1994. Our West Africa office is sited in Ouagadougou.
