We wish to appoint a Director of Finance and Resources to lead the finance and resources team at TREE AID.

TREE AID is a specialist development organisation that works in the drylands of Africa to help poor communities make the most of the tree resources available to them.

Reporting to the CEO, the Director of Finance and Resources will be a key member of the senior management team with overall responsibility for financial reporting and planning for the TREE AID group. As we embark on our new strategy it is an exciting time for a new Director to be joining the team. You will play a central role in ensuring appropriate strategies and systems that support organisational growth are developed and delivered.

With overall management responsibility for the finance and resources team in the UK and across 5 programme countries in Africa you will be leading on financial management and planning, governance, regulatory matters as well as the charity's organisational administration including IT and HR and acting as Company Secretary.

You will have a recognised qualification (ACCA, CIMA, CA or equivalent) with significant leadership experience at a senior and strategic level. Ideally you will have a good understanding of charity accounting. You will possess excellent communication skills, be a confident and considered decision maker and thrive in environments that are fast-paced and ambitious.

This is a fantastic opportunity to join a professional fundraising team in a dynamic and growing international development charity. TREE AID’s goal is to reduce poverty and protect the environment in the drylands of Africa. TREE AID is looking for an entrepreneurial, target driven, ambitious fundraiser who has a successful track record of closing the deal.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Produce corporate, high value and trust fundraising plans and budgets
  • Manage budgets for fundraising activities
  • Develop and implement effective and efficient corporate, high value and trust donor recruitment and retention activities to maximise income generation
  • Undertake prospect research and qualify and prioritise prospects
  • Plan and implement donor cultivation, solicitation, ask and stewardship activities
  • Provide reporting, evaluation and analysis of corporate and high value fundraising
  • Manage and develop the Fundraising Officer (high value, corporate and trusts) and other staff and volunteers when relevant

Person specification to include:

  • Experience of managing successful high value and/or corporate fundraising functions
  • Experience of soliciting substantial individual or corporate gifts
  • Experience of acquiring new major and corporate supporters
  • Experience of major and corporate donor stewardship
  • Ability to communicate to raise funds in writing and in person
  • Ability to analyse data and to generate clear reports and recommendations
  • Confident and able to interact effectively with people at all levels
  • Entrepreneurial
  • Solution focussed
  • Empathy with TREE AID’s aims and objectives
  • Able to travel, both in the UK and Africa
